Reducing smoke and odor from twin wood fired pizza ovens and a wood fired grill located in an historic Midtown Manhattan hotel restaurant

About this Project

Marta, located within the lobby of the historic Martha Washington Hotel on Park Avenue, serves artisan style pizza and Italian fare in an open kitchen setting.

The use of both a large grill and two brick pizza ovens posed an issue in terms of the odor and smoke nuisance for their hotel clientele and high-rise neighbors.

Neighbor complaints had been filed with the NYC DEP due to the emissions from the wood fired cooking appliances. After consultation, Smoki® USA advised the installation of a Maxi Grill 500S unit for the wood fired grill, and a Smoke Zapper 300 for the twin pizza ovens.

After installation of the units, the restaurant was surveyed by the NYC DEP. The NYC DEP considered the emissions to no longer pose a nuisance and the case was closed.
